Retribution Gospel Choir es el eufórico nuevo proyecto del fenomenal guitarrista y cantante de Low , Alan Sparhawk . A diferencia del punto garage de Black Eyed Snakes, Retribution Gospel Choir es una sólida banda de rock con un punto romántico. The Gospel Choir suena como una versión de Low en la que hubiera un batería muy serio al que el resto de la banda trata de mantener bajo control. Las melodías son dulces, dinámicas y musculosas y las canciones tremendamente compactas. La mayoría de las diez canciones no van más allá de los tres minutos.
Retribution Gospel Choir combina la vulnerabilidad de Low con la oscuridad de la voz de un Sparhawk que se emociona cantando y que está absolutamente brillante con la guitarra. La banda la completan el bajista de Low , Matt Livingston y el batería Eric Pollard . En una de las canciones Mimi Parker hace coros. Dos canciones compuestas originalmente para Retribution Gospel Choir fueron publicadas por Low en su álbum Drums And Guns . Sin duda, uno de los discos de rock del año.

I am living proof of Rock-N-Roll. I’ve played over a thousand shows from CBGBs to the Royal Albert Hall, driven literally a half a million miles, recorded multiple international critically-acclaimed releases with my beautiful wife Mimi Parker and our band called Low, and I’ve managed to pay the bills as an independent artist for the last fifteen years. This is probably the only time I have or will ever talk about myself this way, but you have to admit it – I’m right!
Retribution Gospel Choir started three or four years ago. We’ve already toured around the US a bit and released a couple tour EPs. We’re a good band and great things happen when we play live. Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon, Red House Painters, etc.) convinced us to let him produce us, and it worked. It’s a heavy and singable record with lots of guitar. We did it in San Francisco at Hyde Street Studio, where we met Billy Joel and the Dead Kennedys. People got hurt.
I think this is a great record and I think we’re going to surprise alot of people.
